Events March 5

About the Workshop

If you’ve ever wondered if social enterprise is an option for your non-profit organization, how it might affect charity status, or if you’re learning what social enterprise is for the first time this is the workshop for you. Matthew Rempel from Strategy Made Simple will provide a description of what social enterprise is, how it can be used, and how it can be a part of the funding and operational mix for nonprofits using local and Canadian examples.

In this workshop, we will be focusing on what is needed from boards to support or start a social enterprise, how it can be used within your organizational planning and strategy, and what you’re allowed to do as a nonprofit or charity without risking your status. We will discuss structures of social enterprises, examples of nonprofit run social enterprises in Canada, and how it can affect restricted vs. unrestricted funds (a favorite of treasurers!).

There will also be opportunities to ask about the specific ideas that you or your team have, and how we go about evaluating the feasibility and risks of social enterprise ideas.
