Community action, community impact

In 2022, our direct economic impact (excluding the value of service-based activities) was calculated at $145K. Of the service-based activities that job experiences performed, 92% supported stewardship of place, with 82% of service-based activities supporting civic participation.

How LITE creates change

LITE works with partners based on where they are located (low-income neighbourhoods) and on shared principles and values.

Mission statement: LITE breaks down barriers to employment through capacity building and job creation.
Vision: Everyone can attain employment to better our communities.

LITE’s impact focuses on the following five Neechi Principles:

  1. Training and skill development
  2. Make local
  3. Human dignity
  4. Community self-determination
  5. Healthy and safe neighbourhoods

Community support on our communities' terms

LITE Jobs are designed to help reduce poverty by delivering the support, goods, and services based on input from residents and members of that community about their needs.

LITE strives to follow all of the Neechi Principles, but the above five principles will be front and centre in our decision-making processes over the next five years.

Training and skill development is a long-term core charitable activity that LITE supports as part of our mandate to reduce poverty. Supporting social enterprises and encouraging partner organizations and residents to make local goods and services is likewise a key charitable activity of poverty reduction. Restoring and honouring human dignity and supporting community self-determination is at the core of our relationships.

This includes the belief that any shame, stigmatization or marginalization that people living in racialized and gendered poverty experience is a barrier to economic development, and a barrier to healthy and safe neighbourhoods.

LITE works to reduce poverty in the following neighbourhoods

North end cluster:

Dufferin
Lord Selkirk Park
North Point Douglas
William Whyte

West end cluster:

Colony
Daniel McIntyre
St. Matthews
West Alexander
West Broadway

Other:

Downtown
Elmwood

Collectively, these neighbourhoods make up 5% of Winnipeg’s population.
